Creative Movement shows young children with little or no previous experience the magical world of dance movement through the use of songs, games, fairy tales and their favorite props. Along with creative dance activities students will get an introduction to the basics of ballet. Fun and exploration highlights this 45 minute class, once a week. Children will perform in the end of year recital!
This is an introduction class for our youngest dancers! This one hour class consists of a ½ hour of ballet and a ½ hour of tap. Children will have fun and gain a fondness for dance, while learning basic ballet positions and tap steps. Children will perform one of the two subjects in the recital!
This class is designed for children with little or no previous dance experience. This one hour class will be a combination of a ½ hr. ballet and ½ hr. tap or ½ hr. ballet and a ½ hr. jazz. These classes will teach the student coordination skills, musicality, basic terminology, and the proper use of muscle development. Children will gain self-expression and confidence while preparing themselves for the next level of dance.
Ballet requires strength and patience because of its difficult technical elements. Taking years to
develop, the body is set in various positions and poses which require flexibility in the back, legs, rib
cage, and feet. Dedication to study over an extended period of time will increase fluidity, grace, and technique among other important elements of dance. Body placement, flexibility, alignment, strength and technique are achieved through barre and center floor work.
Jazz dance is a uniquely American art form. A variety of styles will be taught from primitive to the classic jazz style. This class concentrates on proper technique, placement, strength, and style as well as increasing flexibility and muscle tone.
A rhythmic combination of technical movements and style, tap focuses on the recall of intricate steps
of the foot incorporated with upper body grace. Timing, Musicality, and Rhythm are concentrated on during class. Tap can be performed with or without the accompaniment of music while still showcasing technical skills and entertainment.
A street inspired dance class that fuses breaking, popping and locking, performed to music of the same style that helped the Hip Hop culture evolve.
Musical Theatre is a form of jazz dance combining music, stylized choreography and lots of personality! Dancers will have the opportunity to learn movement and history from many different Broadway shows and musicals, both past and present. Technique and style are important elements in this dance class as students are exposed to the next level by layering in detail and creating a story to go along with the movement.
An intense form of dance expression, lyrical incorporates the elements of Jazz and Ballet into one harmonious dance style. Interpretations of various pieces of music bring emotion and choreography together to form a story using your body. Technical training is encouraged.
Contemporary dance is a fusion of modern, jazz and lyrical. It is characterized by its versatility.
Contemporary can be danced to almost any style of music, or united with other dance forms to create new styles of movement. Contemporary seeks to work with the natural alignment of the body. Strong technique is recommended for this class, allowing experienced dancers to push new boundaries of body movement.
Pointe class concentrates on the transference of ballet steps from demi-pointe to pointe and is
introduced only when a dancer has developed sufficient strength in the feet and legs necessary for this discipline. Evaluation or invitation required.
Acro is a form of gymnastics performed without props or equipment. Also referred to as floor
gymnastics, common moves performed in this tumbling class include, bridges, handstands,
cartwheels, rolls, flips, somersaults, tucks, handstands and handsprings. This class does perform in the recital.
Stretch, Leaps, Turns and Conditioning helps to improve the dancers facility and body all around. The student will gain strength, flexibility, agility, and improve technique. Dancers are required to bring equipment to class such as weights, yoga mat, yoga blocks and therabands.
